Ahhs: Earth Day

i am so tired this week, i just want to crawl into bed, but tomorrow is earth day! mommy blogging's black friday! i've just spent hours trying to find a interesting angle for this post, but, alas, this is all i have...

about two years ago I saw alice waters (one of my heros) speak on a panel about healthy eating for children. for those of you who don't know alice, she is the queen of local, sustainable and organic food. one of the arguments/points that came up during the talk, that included rachel ray (booo) and jessica seinfeld, was that that organic food costs more than conventional and processed food. alice's response was (i paraphrase): yes, organic food does cost more, but with every bite you take, you vote. vote with your fork.

so next time you are mentally haggling over the price difference between organic and conventional produce, think of how you'd like to cast your vote. happy earth day.

  1. I'm always shocked when they tally up my purchase when I go organic. By the time I prep the food, it feels good knowing I'm not trying to clean off mystery chemicals...and that vibe carries me through the cooking and eating (and feeding!!!) Well worth the extra dollar per pound.
