Coos Reviews: Enchanted Lion Books

i have been sitting on this review way too long...
i just didn't know how to put into words the beautiful books published by the family-owned enchanted lion books. i had complete writers block! luckily, these books speak for themselves....

enchanted lion brings the english edition of the french book, seasons, illustrated by blexbolex. every page of this book i want to rip out and hang on my wall. one of the most beautiful books for children or adults.
i love the play between the two pages and how abstract concepts
come to life.

the day the cow sneezed originally published in 1957 is a sough after book by the illustrator james flora. enchanted lion brings us the first reprinting. the brilliantly colored illustrations take the readers on a hilarious ride through the book.

i love the zig zag lion!
feeling sad, i love this book not only because it has amazing illustrations, but it talks about a very real emotion that isn't a common topic in children's literature: sadness. a depressed little duck chins up and finds the sunshine in life. the illustrations start off in black and white and slowly the drawings come into full color and the duck is happy. adorable.

this is just a sampling of some of the lovely titles enchanted lion offers. i am working on getting their whole catalogue!

Ahhs: Renate Müller Toys + Design

last week i was in miami for art basel. i dropped by design miami and came across these amazing toys by the german designer renate müller.  müller started designing toys in the 60s and partnered with helene haeusler at the sonneberg technical college for toy design to create beautiful toys for children with disabilities and mental illness.

these toys are probably some of the most beautiful objects for children i have ever seen. i am sure they cost more than i can even imagine (sigh). müller's toys are on view at R Gallery in New York till January 4, 2011 or if you can't make it to the city, there is a book available too!

Coos Reviews: mimiTENS

i can never figure out how to keep my child's hands warm during the winter. he is always ripping mittens off and then proceeds to freak out since his hands are freezing. in comes the geniuses at mimiTENS. they have designed beautiful mittens for babies and kids alike that actually stay on and aren't too bulky.  brilliant, huh? the secret is the long cuffs that go way up the arm--also great for playing in the snow.
mimiTENS sent me a pair of bébé soft mimiTENS that are made from organic bamboo fleece and a pair of all weather mimiTENS that are made of a water repellant nylon and lined with bamboo fleece. honestly, they looked too good to be true, but maybe that is because they look so good! the soft mimiTENS are great for little hands, easy to put on and stay on. the all weather mittens are more durable and super warm. both styles are embroidered with sweet designs and the craftsmanship is exceptional. we had no trouble keeping them on, henry could hold a sippy cup and even climb around the playground. oh, and they are from canada, so they really know how to stay warm in style!! these are a must this winter and a fantastic christmas gift.
